Original Trainweb Site

Dave’s former Trainweb site has remained static since Monday 6 June 2005. The cause is hiding under the keyboard drawer in Dave’s ‘mission control’ photo below... his computer! The motherboard effectively fried, taking out the hard drive at the same time.

This left Dave with a problem; the source files were now lost and there didn’t seem to be an obvious way to simply download the contents of the website from the internet hosting server down to another machine. At the same time, the then 4-month old forum was becoming ever more popular and despite obtaining another machine, Dave never found the time to invest in starting again. So today the old TrainWeb site is destined to forever remain as it was back in mid 2005.

For the record Dave’s created his original site using NetObjects FUSION 7.5, that he credited as being:

... a great piece of software to use.  I can work in plain English - no HTML knowledge is really needed, and the screens are all very much 'What You See Is What You Get'.  Like any program it takes some time and effort to get to know it, but after a relatively short period of experimentation it's certainly possible to get a good looking site!

TrainWeb.org was used to host the original site, providing web space at no charge as they do for numerous railway related sites world wide. The trade off was that they also host railway related advertisements towards to top of every page.

There were also a number of people who assisted Dave with his original site including Piccadilly Pilot, Traindriver, Solidbond, Tubeprune (for whom his first articles were originally written), Chris Adams, Thornton Tom, Tube Troll, Bob Yeldham and Phil Wimbush and his family who Dave thanked for putting up with the hours that he spent beavering away at his PC in his little ‘cubby hole’!
